A local woman got back last Friday after she rescued over a dozen dogs in Texas after Hurricane Harvey.

Megan Rombalski says after seeing the devastating effects of the hurricane, she just had to help.

She filled her horse trailer with food, water and pet food donations and headed for Texas with two friends.

"By the time I got there the water was septic and there were flesh-eating bacteria," she said. "You weren't allowed to touch a pet or any person that had been in the water... every person had to be decontaminated."

She says shelters were packed with dogs, many heartworm positive with no resources to care for them.

"I went for the dogs that needed the most help," she explained. "Bascially, the ones that needed 24 hours or less."

All the other dogs she brought back went to the Tucson Humane Society and one is going to be up for adoption this weekend at a PetSmart location.

"It was amazing to see how everyone from so many different places is helping," she said. "I wish resources were split and I know that they still need a lot of help in a lot of areas."

She says spent $1,200 for the entire trip and is considering going back to help.
