The Oro Valley Police Department wants drivers to slow down, and they'll be more heavily patrolling several locations with the help of a new grant from the Governor's Office of Highway Safety.

Around $25,000 will be used to fund extra enforcement, and $10,000 was used to purchase new speed radar equipment.

Officers have already completed five deployments, but out of more than 70 traffic stops, they've only handed out tickets about 30% of the time.

This campaign is mostly about education and improving safety on the roads.

OVPD says speeding is one of the biggest contributing factors to crashes along with distracted driving.

These patrols will continue throughout the new year along the busiest sections of Oracle Road.
