TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) Arizona Wildcats football coach Rich Rodriguez says quarterback Jesse Scroggins will be sidelined for spring practice after having surgery on his foot.

Scroggins, a transfer from El Camino College, started his college career at USC. He is expected to battle for the starting quarterback position.

Rodriguez said, "He could havey maybe tried to play with it but I'd rather have everybody 100% in August. than have a question mark if he tweaks it so he'll be very limited this spring."

Senior B.J. Denker returns after backing up Matt Scott in 2012. The Wildcats have incoming freshman Anu Solomon, as well as three quarterbacks who redshirted last year.

Spring practice begins on Saturday. The spring game is on April 13th.
