Seattle to face Real Salt Lake in Desert Diamond Cup Championship
Reporter: Jason Barr, Sports Director
TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) On Wednesday night at Kino Stadium, the Sounders beat New York, 2-0, and Real Salt Lake came back to beat New England, 3-2.
That means Seattle and RSL will face off in Saturday’s 5 p.m. championship game, which will be broadcast on the NBC Sports Network. The Red Bulls and Revs play for third place at 3 p.m.
Oddly enough, the Sounders actually wouldn’t field their starters in the final. No, Seattle’s top lineup is more likely to feature in a Feb. 22 friendly against Veracruz of the Mexican second division to better prepare for a CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal against Mexico’s Tigres UANL.
This is the third annual Desert Diamond Cup, hosted by FC Tucson.
