TUCSON (Rory McIlroy Foundation) - As part of the yearlong celebration of the 50th Anniversary of saving kids’ lives, The Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson is thrilled to be a beneficiary of The 6 Bags Project, the first fundraising initiative of the World # 1 Professional Golfer and 2012 PGA Tour Player of the Year, Rory McIlroy.  Youth-serving charities are the focus of The Rory Foundation, and Rory had a personal hand in choosing the local Tucson beneficiary.  “I am delighted to include The Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson in The 6 Bags Project.  I have heard of the work this organization does for vulnerable kids in the community and hopefully being part of The 6Bags Project will raise not only money but awareness for this worthy charity – on a local and national level”, said Rory McIlroy.

The 6 Bags Project works like this:  For each of the first 6 tournaments Rory plays in for the first four months of 2013, his golf bag will carry the name and logo of a children’s charity.  During the tournament, the bag will be auctioned through www.roryfoundation.com with all monies raised going to the featured charity. To bid on the bag, visit http://bgct.auction-bid.org/bgct.php.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson is Rory’s charity during the Accenture Match Play Championship, taking place from February 20-24, 2013 in Tucson.  The connection with the Rory Foundation andworldwide notoriety during coverage of the Accenture Match Play Championship will have a significant impact on Tucson’s youth by highlighting our mission and featuring the Clubs 50th Anniversary of helping to save lives of at-risk youth by keeping them off the streets and involved in positive activities such as athletics.  A press conference and a meet and greet with Rory and several youth members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson will take place on February 19th.

“As a product of this great organization and now as its CEO, it is an honor to have Rory think of our kids and help provide them with a great future.  It is also a wonderful acknowledgement for the Tucson community and all of those who support at-risk youth”, said Armando Rios, CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson.

Lorraine Morgan, Vice President of Fund Development and Communications for the Boys & Girls Clubs notes, “The partnership with the Rory Foundation and the 6 Bags Project is an extension of the exceptional relationship between our organization and the Tucson Conquistadores, whose fundraising efforts surrounding the Accenture Match Play Championship enable us to provide our members with superior athletic programs and outstanding youth development staff to facilitate sports leagues and healthy lifestyle initiatives.”
