Several local high schools win state championships

GILBERT and PRESCOTT VALLEY (KGUN9-TV) Catalina Foothills girls soccer and Salpointe boys soccer each won state championships on Saturday, following a day in which Ironwood Ridge and Sunnyside won Arizona wrestling titles.
The Falcons girls soccer team defeated Apollo, 3-0, for its fourth consecutive state championship. Emily Parker had two goals in the win. Apollo finished the season with a 20-2 record with their only two losses coming to Catalina Foothills. It's the sixth title since 2006 for coach Charlie Kendrick.
The Salpointe Lancers boys team also beat Apollo, 2-0, for their second straight title. It is the sixth state title for coach Wolfgang Weber
On Friday night in Prescott Valley, the Ironwood Ridge wrestling team captured four individual titles to take the overall D-2 state title, the Nighthawks second consecutive championship. Sunnyside took first in the D-1 championship.
