TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - University of Arizona football and head coach Rich Rodriguez  announced the National Letter of Intent student-athletes of the 2013 recruiting class. Rodriguez’s second class at Arizona includes 12 offensive players, 10 defensive players and two athletes with 23 entering as true freshmen and one junior transfer.

Among the offensive players, the Wildcats have picked up two standout quarterbacks, Anu Solomon and Jesse Scroggins. Solomon, of Bishop Gorman high school, passed for 2,849 yards with 35 touchdown passes last season. He completed 153-of-225 attempts and threw 5 interceptions.

Rodriguez said, “Anu is a guy we identified pretty early. He may be one of the best high school quarterbacks from a winning standpoint in the country in a long, long time. I think he was 56-4, won four state championships and is from one of the best programs in the country. He can throw, he runs wells, he’s a tough competitor and he’s a winner. Again, he played for a great high school program. I’m really excited about Anu. He has the skill set that we look for in a quarterback. He’s a competitor and a tough guy. He should have a great future here.”

Scroggins, a transfer from El Camino College, played eight games in the 2012 season and threw for 1,148 yards and 8 touchdowns with 2 rushing touchdowns.

An important addition for the Wildcats is the 5 linebackers added to the roster, a position that Rich Rodriguez stressed as his teams’ “biggest area of need” several times throughout last season. Arizona welcomes linebackers Ryan Dunn, DeAndre Miller, R.J. Morgan, Derrick Turituri and Philip Wright.

Rodriguez said, “Today is a combination of a lot of work put in the past 12 months by a lot of different folks on the staff, as every coach in America can tell you. We’re pleased with our recruiting class. We met a lot of needs. You definitely need to wait a few years before you can evaluate a recruiting class. There are several guys in this class that will probably have an opportunity to play early and be great contributors. They’re great people to add to our program from a playing standpoint and a character standpoint. I’m very excited about this class.”
