TUCSON (KGUN9)- Sophomore Kevin Cordes a rising swimming star at Arizona and is the one of the best in the country when it comes to the breaststroke.
The Illinois native has been swimming since the age of six, but didn't understand his full potential until high school. That's where he eventually was recruited by several colleges, but Arizona just seemed to be the right fit.
Only a year and a half into his college career, Cordes has impressed coaches and teammates and has already broken records.
"Each set of training has gotten better and better and he has improved even more since December," added Arizona Head Coach Eric Hansen.
Just in December, Cordes broke the American records in both the 100m and 200m breaststroke and to add to that, he picked up a bronze and gold medal in the World Championships.
"After the 100 when I broke the record, I felt like I had a shot to break the 200, but I was kind of surprised about it," says Cordes.
And while his goal is to make it to the Summer Olympics in 2016, right now Cordes is focused on his next task which is helping his team place well at this year's NCAA Championships.
