Padres win at Nashville
Tucson rallies in the 8th inning
NASHVILLE--
The Tucson Padres sent 14 batters to the plate in an eight-run eighth inning and beat the Nashville Sounds Thursday, 8-6. The rally included RBI doubles by Steve Tolleson and Anthony Rizzo, a two-run single by Matt Clark. Tucson collected five hits, five walks and two hit batsmen in the frame. After scoring just five runs in their previous 52 innings combined, the eight-run explosion put the Padres in front to stay.
Rizzo was 2-for-5 with an RBI and now has 94 RBIs in 78 PCL games this season. The Padres comeback spoiled a strong start from Nashville’s Sam Narron, who pitched into the eighth inning and only allowed two runs. Five of the six Nashville runs came while Padres starter Matt Buschmann was in the game, who allowed seven hits and did not factor in the decision.
The win ended a five-game losing streak and puts the Padres record at 56-69. The Padres are now 2-5 on the road trip with the finale in Nashville tomorrow at 5:05 pm.
