Water main break causes sinkhole in Scottsdale
Web Producer: Taylor Higgins
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Officials in Scottsdale say they've identified the location of a water main break that created a sinkhole at the intersection of Pima and Pinnacle Peak roads.
Repair crews are working around the clock and anticipate the water line to be repaired by Friday night.
Road repairs are expected to be completed over the weekend with the intersection reopened on Monday morning.
The main broke on Thursday. No injuries were reported, but authorities say one vehicle reportedly was damaged while driving through the area.
Sinkholes are fairly unusual for Arizona but commonplace in Florida. That state's "sinkhole season" coincides with the beginning of Florida's rainy season and usually lasts until the end of summer.
Geologists say both extremely dry weather and very wet weather can trigger sinkholes.
