Homebuilt plane has to land on highway in Peoria
Web Producer: Taylor Higgins
PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say a pilot and passenger escaped injury after a homebuilt plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Peoria, west of Phoenix.
They say the Challenger II experienced a mechanical problem Tuesday morning.
It landed on the West Carefree Highway before hitting a sign and coming to rest in the desert south of the highway.
The highway was closed in both directions near North Lake Pleasant Parkway in Peoria for about two hours.
The names of the pilot and passenger haven't been released and there was no immediate word on where the plane took off or where it was headed.
