San Tan Valley baby drowned in pool

SAN TAN VALLEY (KGUN9-TV) - An infant is dead after she drowned in a pool Tuesday.
Pinal County deputies responded to a call about a child drowning in the 34,000 block of North Barzona Trail at around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to Tim Gaffney with the Pinal County Sheriff's Department.
Once on scene, deputies discovered a one-year-old female child was at the home with her grandmother, Gaffney said.
Gaffney tells 9OYS that deputies also learned that the backdoor of the residence was left open. The child went into the backyard where she feel into the family pool, according to Gaffney.
The grandmother found the child in the pool and jumped in to rescue the child, Gaffney said. She performed CPR until emergency medical personnel arrived on scene and resumed CPR.
The child was then taken to a local hospital by air ambulance, according to Gaffney.
Gaffney says the child was pronounced dead Tuesday afternoon.
