MESA, Ariz. (AP) - An Arizona mother is facing child abuse and unlawful imprisonment charges for allegedly using plastic ties to restrain her 11-year-old son in the family's backyard.
Mesa Police spokesman Steven Berry says officers responded to the home Wednesday after getting a call about a possible domestic disturbance.
When they arrived, 36-year-old Jaica Rowley told them her son was out of control and she had to leave the home to pay a bill so she used the plastic ties to bind the boy's hands and feet and then zip-tied him to the porch post.
Police say one of the boy's fingers was cut by scissors when Rowley attempted to cut one of the plastic ties and reposition it.
Court records show a preliminary hearing for Rowley is scheduled for Feb. 13.
