PHOENIX (AP) - Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer plans to attend a U.S.-Mexico border state governors meeting for the first time.
Brewer's office says she will attend the 30th such conference to be held Oct. 4-5 in Albuquerque, N.M.
Brewer canceled going to a border governors conference in Mexico a year ago, saying she wanted to instead meet with a state agency director.
A conference she'd planned to host in 2010 was scrapped because Mexican governors wouldn't attend because of Arizona's approval of an illegal immigration law.
She was among several U.S. governors who skipped going to a conference in Mexico the year she took office in 2009 because of escalating border violence.
Topics scheduled to be discussed during the October meeting include economic development, border security and international ports of entry.
