PHOENIX (AP) - Fire officials fighting a brush fire have found a body burned beyond recognition.

Phoenix police Sgt. Tommy Thompson said the body was found Saturday morning in the area of Interstate 17 and Dixileta Road. He said the body was discovered in the rubbish while firefighters were extinguishing the blaze.

Fire officials flagged down a passing police officer and the scene was secured.

The case is now being treated as a homicide.

Police said they have received reports that a dark colored, possibly black, 4-door SUV may have left the scene of the fire with its lights off.

No arrests have been made.

It was unclear if the body was of a man or woman.
