Tucson man charged with impersonating an officer
TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A Tucson man who authorities say faked his way onto Fort Huachuca by pretending to be an Air Force officer has been charged with various federal offenses.
Among the charges that 46-year-old Jeffrey Lee Bennett faces are identification document fraud and falsely presenting himself in a United State Air Force uniform.
A federal indictment says Bennett entered Fort Huachuca wearing an Air Force uniform with the rank of major general.
The government says Bennett twice gained access to the post and made unauthorized purchases at the post exchange and commissary by pretending to be a general officer.
A spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's Office says Bennett was in the Air Force in the 1980s.
