PHOENIX (AP) - A University of Arizona sophomore has been appointed to a two-year term as student regent for the Arizona Board of Regents.
Valerie Hannah was named the new student regent Tuesday by Gov. Jan Brewer.
The board oversees the UofA, Arizona State University and Northern Arizona University.
It didn't have student regents until 1978 when the Arizona Students' Association proposed the idea.
The position is available to any full-time undergraduate or graduate student through an application process.
Pending approval by the Arizona Senate, Hanna will begin her term on July 1.
She won't be a voting member of the board until her second year.
Hannah is pursuing a bachelor's degree in political science with a focus on public policy and law.
