Local non-profit hosting event to raise money for food bank

  • Interfaith Community Services of Tucson is hosting the 2nd Annual fundraiser for the ICS Food Bank, which takes place from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Tucson Chinese Cultural Center.

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - The Interfaith Community Services of Tucson hosted the 2nd Annual fundraiser for the ICS Food Bank and sold more than 1,000 tickets.  So many people turned out to help the needy in Tucson that the event sold out of tickets.
Proceeds from the event will help feed hungry households and hungry individuals in the Tucson community.
 
"One in four children in our community don't have enough to eat," said Deborah Carr, development director for ICS.  
 
During the event, participants chose beautiful handmade pottery bowls that were crafted by local artisans and sampled signature soups, breads and desserts from area restaurants. Participants also enjoyed live music and gifts, such as unique pottery items and more as part of the silent auction and raffle.
 
Last year, the event welcomed 700 participants and raised $22,000.  This year, more than 1,000 guests attended the event, which took place at the Tucson Chinese Cultural Center.
 
"We are so blessed and touched that so many people came out today to support ICS and those in need," Carr said.
