FOUNTAIN HILLS, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities are searching the desert east of the Phoenix area after receiving a report of people finding explosives, possibly hand grenades.
Maricopa County sheriff's spokesman Brandon Jones says authorities late Monday night received a call about the discovery of items that look like grenades.
Jones says deputies are at the location which is about 30 miles north of Mesa and off State Route 87. That highway connects Mesa and Fountain Hills on the eastern fringe of the Phoenix area with the mountain community of Payson.
Jones says a note found at the site indicates there may be more explosives in other locations.
