TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Emergency crews with the Northwest Fire District responded to the 1700 block of west Ruthrauff Road, near Calle Reina, after a pedestrian was struck at around 7:10 p.m. Monday, according to Capt. Adam Goldberg with the Northwest Fire District.
Goldberg tells KGUN9 that the pedestrian is a woman around the age of 50-years-old and she has been transported to the University of Arizona Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
Deputy Tom Peine with the Pima County Sheriff's Department tells KGUN9 that several witnesses say the pedestrian was heavily intoxicated and not walking in a crosswalk. He also said the area was not well lit.
A 35-year-old man and his wife were headed westbound on Ruthrauff Road in their Nissan Pathfinder just after 7:00 p.m. when they struck the woman, Peine said.
According to Peine, the driver showed no signs of being impaired and was driving within the speed limit.
Goldberg says the westbound lanes of Ruthrauff Road are closed at this time while deputies continue to investigate the scene.
