TUCSON (AP) - The Arizona Department of Transportation is warning motorists traveling on Interstate 10 between Tucson and Benson in southeastern Arizona to expect a major detour that starts Friday evening.
The detour will add up to two hours of additional travel time and is a result of a temporary closure of a 20-mile stretch of I-10 about 30 miles east of downtown Tucson.
The closure will begin at 9 p.m. Friday and run until 6 a.m. Saturday.
ADOT says it is closing I-10 between the junction with State Route 83 and the junction with State Route 90 so a railroad bridge can be removed to permit taller trucks to use I-10.
Eastbound traffic will be taken off I-10 at SR 83 and routed back to I-10 at Benson.
Westbound traffic will be taken off I-10 at SR 90 at Benson and get back on I-10 at the SR 83 junction.
ADOT says motorists should just avoid that stretch of I-10 during the closure.
