TPD: Armed robbery suspect took own life

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Officers from Operations Division West responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Pyramid Federal Credit Union located at 4491 North Oracle Road around 10:30 a.m., Feb. 28.
In a news release, Sgt. Chris Widmer said that the suspect fled before officers arrived. No one was injured during the incident.
Upon further investigation, detectives determined that the suspect was a male, over 6 feet tall with a large build. He was wearing a maroon zip-up sweater, white pants, yellow rubber gloves and a black neoprene-type mask.
Cochise County Deputies attempted to make contact with a man who was in a vehicle that same evening. The vehicle drove off and a pursuit ensued. The vehicle then pulled over abruptly and deputies found 53-year old Kirk Luethy in the vehicle with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Deputies later found evidence linking him to the earlier bank robbery that occurred in Tucson. Luethy was from the Los Angeles area. There were no indications he was involved in any other armed robberies in the Tucson area.
