Yuma hospital plans expansion project

YUMA, Ariz. (AP) - Yuma Regional Medical Center plans a $250 million expansion, including construction of a new emergency department with three times as much space as the current, congested one.
CEO Pat Walz says construction of the new emergency department is to begin in January and be finished to start caring for patients by late 2016.
According to the Yuma Sun, the new emergency department would have 72 beds, up from 37 now, and additional space would be set aside for more beds as the hospital grows.
The department also would have an elevated heliport to accommodate two helicopters above a ground-level entry for ambulances.
Other elements of the expansion include a new cancer center, a new support services building and a 390-space parking garage.
