TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - The Tucson Fire Department will engage in a controlled burn firefighting exercise that is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at the Sweetwater Wetlands, 2667 Sweetwater Drive.
In a news release, TFD Captain Barrett Baker said that the exercise will be a controlled burn of the wetlands to enhance the Tucson Water's Mosquito Abatement Program at the Sweetwater Wetlands.
The burn is set to begin around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday. All units will have a safety briefing before the burn starts.
Baker said that there will be smoke in the area and multiple 911 calls are expected to be made to report this throughout the burn. TFD would appreciate any efforts that can be made to let the public know that this is a pre-planned prescribed burn.
