SRP, LA in talks about Navajo Generating Station
Web Producer: Mekita Rivas
PHOENIX (AP) - An Arizona power and water district is negotiating to increase its ownership of the Navajo Generating Station, a coal-fired plant near Page in northern Arizona.
According to The Arizona Republic, the Salt River Project is negotiating with the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power to purchase Los Angeles' 21 percent share of the plant.
Such a purchase would roughly double SRP's stake in the plant.
SRP spokesman Scott Harelson confirms there are discussions between SRP and Los Angeles.
Harelson won't say whether a deal is pending or provide any details on a possible price or costs that could be passed on to consumers.
Other utilities in Arizona in Nevada and the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation also have ownership shares in the plant.
