TFD battles early morning fire amid downed power line

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - TFD crews battled a fire that destroyed two buildings used for storage Thursday morning. The fire broke out around 1:30 a.m. and also threatened a nearby mobile home in the 6000 block of South Nogales Highway.
In a news release, Capt. Barrett Baker with TFD said that a downed power line posed an additional risk to firefighters because of the dark nighttime conditions.
The first unit on the scene arrived four minutes after being dispatched. Nine units and 23 firefighters responded to the scene and controlled the fire within 15 minutes of their arrival. There were no injuries to firefighters and Red Cross was not needed.
The two storage buildings were completely destroyed by the fire. Tucson Electric Power arrived to assist with the power line issue.
The cause was determined to be an electrical failure at the service meter and fuse box on the southwest corner of the south building. The fuse box where the failure took place supplied power to four buildings on the property, including the two buildings that were burned, a mobile home, and a church.
