Arpaio says 'never mind' on jail funding request

PHOENIX (AP) - Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio is dramatically scaling back his request for additional funding for his department.
Arpaio had requested a $274 million increase in funding, with $240 million of that for a new jail.
But The Arizona Republic reports that the sheriff says he's had second thoughts and decided that building a new jail amounted to a "wish list" that can wait.
Arpaio says his top priority is getting pay raises for sheriff's personnel.
