TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Hundreds lined the chilly streets Thursday morning for the Tucson Rodeo Parade. An event not only meant to show off our love for the wild west, but also the spirit of our community.
And who better to represent the resilience of Tucson than this year's parade Grand Marshals, Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and Capt. Mark Kelly.
Capt. Mark Kelly has so much to celebrate, but today, it's about his birthday and spending time in Tucson with his wife.
"For Gabby and I to be out there, you know with, all the folks out there enjoying this great rodeo, I mean, it's nice to be part of something that's been tradition for such a long time," said Kelly.
He and Giffords were the Grand Marshals of this year's rodeo parade, and as a native of Tucson, Giffords was in her element, surrounded by support.
"She loves this kind of stuff," said Kelly. "Just interacting with people the way she did when she was a member of congress or in the state legislature."
Kelly says Giffords recognized familiar faces as the parade made its way through Tucson. He says she's doing well, but all this excitement can also be tiring.
"She said, you know when we pulled into the lot when the parade part was over for us, she said I'm exhausted," he said.
Those who saw her today say they recognize her strength, but especially, they appreciate her recovery.
