TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Tucson police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred on the southwest side.

Sgt. Chris Widmer with the Tucson Police Department tells 9OYS that a shooting occurred in the 5600 block of South Abbottsford Drive, near west Drexel Road and south Midvale Park Road at around 6:30 a.m. Sunday.

Widmer says a woman called 9-1-1 after someone rang her doorbell, but would not tell the woman who they were.

Tucson police responded to the woman's neighborhood and noticed two male individuals in the area.

The two individuals separated and one of the individuals, later identified as a 17-year-old boy, ran to the backyard of a residence.

Widmer tells 9OYS that Officer Jesus Arriola ran after the boy and while in the backyard, the boy began fumbling with his waste band.

Officer Arriola tased the teen.

After being tased, the teen turned around and Officer Arriola said he began raising a handgun towards him.

That's when Officer Arriola fired at him.

Widmer says the boy suffered a non-life-threatening injury and ran from the scene.

Police tried searching for the boy and later learned that he had been admitted to a local emergency room, according to Widmer.

Widmer told us initial investigations show that the man and the teen were not associated with each other, and there is no evidence that the two were involved in the initial 9-1-1 call.

Officer Arriola has been with TPD for 5 years.

Police are still investigating the incident and have restricted both north and southbound lanes on Midvale Park Road near Drexel Road.
