TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Northwest Fire crews battled a fire in a library on the northwest side Wednesday night after a passer-by noted smoke in the area of the building.
Capt. Adam Goldberg told KGUN9 that the fire was at 1730 W. Wetmore Rd. It took 28 firefighters manning four engine companies to get the fire under control within 35 minutes of units arriving at the scene.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation and will be determined by the Pima County Sheriff's Department investigators as the case was turned over to them, Goldberg said.
The interior of the library suffered smoke damage, but firefighters kept the fire from spreading to any area of the building which contained books or periodicals. Interior fire damage was limited to storage areas and a bathroom. Damages were estimated to be between $4,000 and $6,000.
Representatives from the Pima County Library System were on the scene to assess the damages.
