ASU student dies after jumping off campus building

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - Arizona State University officials say an undergraduate student is dead after jumping from a building on the Tempe campus.

The name of the 21-year-old woman wasn't immediately released, but ASU spokeswoman Sharon Keeler told The Arizona Republic that the woman left a suicide note in her backpack.

Campus police responded to the scene about 5 p.m. Tuesday.

The Republic reports witnesses saw the woman jump off of the Goldwater Center building near Rural Road and University Drive. KTAR-AM in Phoenix says (http://bit.ly/WHYphX ) the building was soon surrounded by yellow police tape.

The building houses faculty offices, classrooms, engineering labs and other departments.
