City Council votes to support Genna's Law

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - The Tucson City Council voted Tuesday to support legislation that would require a breathalyzer in accidental shooting circumstances.
The council voted unanimously to support Genna's Law, sponsored by State Representatives Bruce Wheeler and Ethan Orr.
The legislation stemmed from the shooting death of Genna Ayup last summer.
Ayup's boyfriend, Ronald Corbin Jr. was arrested for her death but later released after the Pima County Attorney's Office said there was not enough evidence to prove it was anything more than an accidental shooting.
Genna's Law would require police to conduct a breathalyzer test in cases of accidental shootings.
Council members say the law would make it easier to prosecute an accidental shooting while someone is intoxicated.
State Rep. Eddie Farnsworth will ultimately decide if the law will get a hearing.
