VAIL (KGUN9-TV) - Here in Tucson, we admired the snow-capped mountains from afar, but in Vail, people got to experience it first hand!

It began snowing in Vail at about five this morning. It was a pretty light dusting, but it still got residents and visitors very excited.

When Shaun Kelley and his daughter, Gabby, pulled up to their animal feed shop this morning...

"Wow, something happened in Vail woooo!"

Shaun was right! What happened was snow, and plenty of it! Enough to coat patches of the desert and the surrounding mountains.

"I'm just preserving the moment and jumping around in it," Gabby said.

The two played around before going back to their snow-less home in Tucson.

Just up the street, a caravan of Porsche and corvettes lined up on the side of the road. Drivers were also admiring their snowy surroundings.

Lee Cuevas, President of the Porsche Club of Southern Arizona, said it was worth a delay of the group's tour of Tucson.

"We wanted to stop here and get a view of the three mountains and all the snow," Lee said.

Snow sprinkled down on Vail a couple of weeks ago, but families were still excited to wake up and see a winter wonderland today.

"It's kinda neat to see snow," Lee said. "We get one inch, and out in the east, they get four feet!"

Vail got between one to two inches of the white stuff today, and Shaun says this powder is much easier than the mountain's to have some fun in.

"This is what we went to the white mountains for," Shaun said. "It was all nice and soft!"

As the day went on and the sun peaked through the clouds, much of the snow began to disappear. The remnants dripped off of what used to be decorated with powder.

But, while it lasted, the snow here was exciting, bringing fun and a nice change of scenery to those lucky enough to experience it.
