SIERRA VISTA (KGUN9-TV) - Sierra Vista police chased down two men outside of an apartment complex after a vending machine burglary early Friday morning.

Police received a call from someone who said they heard a loud banging noise and witnessed three people in the common area of Los Palomas Apartments at around 6:30 a.m. Friday, according to Cpl. Scott Borgstadt with the Sierra Vista Police Department.

Police quickly responded and talked to another witness who said he saw two black men near the laundry facility, Borgstadt said.

Borgstadt tells KGUN9 that as more police were responding to the scene, an officer saw two black men matching the witnesses description jump a wall.

After a short foot pursuit, officers apprehended 21-year-old Victor Smith and 20-year-old Calvin Smith, both of Sierra Vista, according to Borgstadt.

Borgstadt says that despite having the same last name, the two men are not related.

Shortly after catching up to the two men, police searched Calvin Smith and found a backpack that contained several tools, including a drill that may have been used to break into the vending machines. Smith also had metal shavings on his clothes and shoes consistent with the burglarized machines, Borgstadt said.

Police then learned that the two men burglarized and damaged a Coke and Pepsi machine inside the laundry room, according to Borgstadt.

Victor Smith was arrested and charged with burglary and criminal trespassing. Calvin Smith was arrested and charged with burglary, criminal trespassing and possession of burglary tools.

Police are not sure if a third person was involved in the burglary. The case is still under investigation.
