Purple spheres go viral
Reporter: Liz Kotalik
TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - The orbs have taken over, and Tucson, we're famous.
Locally, this story was shared more than 3,000 times on our website, which more than quadruped our previous record for number of shares on a single story.
Thanks to our viewers, word of the orbs is spreading. There's a story written in the U.K.'s Daily Mail, and even stories on websites like ufochronicals.com.
But, of course, with fame comes the tabloids.
Yahoo.com's web series "Broken News" poked fun at our beloved spheres. But, it's fine! It's exposure!
With all of this added attention, KGUN9 is still working hard to try and figure this mystery out.
We took a sample of the orbs to the U of A Cooperative Extension, a place filled with gardeners who may know whether these are water beads used to hydrate plants...or alien eggs.
No luck. While they said the orbs look like water beads, they can't tell us exactly what they are.
They kept a sample of the spheres.
We're working with the U of A and others to try and get someone to test our orbs.
Tomorrow, more gardeners at the Cooperative Extension are looking at the sample we left them and hopefully giving us some feedback.
