Police investigate aggravated assault after man says he was shot
TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - While one man is at the hospital, police search for the man who put him there after what police are calling an aggravated assault incident.
Police responded to the 3300 block of North First Avenue at around 10:30 a.m. Sunday after a man walked into a liquor store and told store clerks that he had been shot, according to Sgt. Chris Widmer with the Tucson Police Department.
Upon arrival, officers noticed that the man was injured, Widmer says. The man then told police about a fight he was having with another man before he was shot.
The victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
During the initial investigation, police talked to witnesses who said they didn't hear any gun shots, Widmer says.
Once officers obtained information about the second man involved in the incident, they headed to an apartment complex in the 3400 block of 2nd Avenue to track him down, according to Widmer.
A standoff occurred, but police were unable to make contact with the second man.
Widmer tells 9OYS that police are currently investigating the incident as an aggravated assault and they are still looking for the second man involved in the altercation.
Detectives don't yet know if the second man is inside the apartment. Police have widened their search beyond the apartment complex, according to Widmer.
