Man turns himself in after stealing 2-year-old son

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - A 24-year-old man who abducted his 2-year-old son turned himself in to detectives Wednesday morning.

Deputy Tom Peine with the Pima County Sheriff's Department tells KGUN9 that Luis Ernesto Soberanes took the boy forcefully from his guardian and disappeared with the child for several hours.

The boy is Soberanes' biological son, but the mother has sole custody over him.

Peine says after extensive news coverage, Soberanes contacted detectives Tuesday and revealed the boy's location but was still on the run.

He contacted detectives again Wednesday morning and was taken into custody and booked on one count of domestic violence-kidnapping, one count of custodial interference and one count of third degree burglary.

On Tuesday, the boyfriend of the 2-year-old's mother was watching the child, King Gomez, when he was approached by a group of people.

The boyfriend was restrained by the group, which included Soberanes, and the maternal aunt and grandmother. The group then took the baby and left.
