Giffords and Kelly named Rodeo Parade Grand Marshalls

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Honored for their Community service to southern Arizona, former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and her husband and former astronaut, Mark Kelly, have been chosen as the Grand Marshals for the 88th Tucson Rodeo Parade.
According to Tucson Rodeo Parade Committee, former Congresswoman Giffords, also a native to Tucson, honored the Tucson Rodeo Parade with an official commendation on the Congressional Record for its 85 years of service to the Tucson and Arizona Community back in February 2010. An advocate for comprehensive immigration refrom that included a secure border, a loyal supporter of the military and also increasing minimum wage.
Giffords is the youngest woman to be elected to the Arizona State Senate. Her career began with an election to the Arizona House of Representatives. In Arizona history, she became the third woman to be elected to the U.S. Congress representing U.S. District 8.
Kelly, a retired U.S. astronaunt and former Navy Captain, became a spokesman on what constitutes acceptable civil discourse after the Tucson shooting in January 2011. Kelly and his wife, Giffords wrote a memoir about their experiences after the shooting.
