TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - The man police say is responsible for two downtown bank robberies was arrested by a Tucson Police Officer patrolling near South 6th Avenue and 6th Street.
Sgt. Chris Widmer with TPD tells KGUN9 that Thursday at about 8:00 a.m., a Tucson Police Officer recognized 42-year old Joe Fontes Gomez, who they believe committed the two robberies that occurred at the National Bank of Arizona located at 136 North Stone Avenue.
Gomez was then detained and Robbery Detectives were able to confirm that he was indeed the suspect for these robberies.
Gomez, a homeless Tucson native, was booked into the Pima County Jail for 2 counts of robbery.
