TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Firefighters responded to a fire and burn victim at an indoor shooting range Sunday afternoon.

Tucson firefighters responding to a call about a fire at the Marksmen Pistol Institute, 5051 East 29th Street, at around 2:00 p.m. Sunday, according to Jeff Langejans with the Tucson Fire Department.

Langejans tells KGUN9 that after putting out the fire, crews began working quickly to remove other combustible items from the building. Another set of firefighters worked to clear smoke out of the building to reduce smoke damage to the front of the building.

During the initial investigation into the cause of the fire, firefighters learned that an employee was processing brass shell casings from spent ammunition when a spark was created, which ignited some powder inside of a bucket, Langejans said.

The employee received a superficial burn to his right forearm while trying to extinguish the fire before eventually fleeing from the building. He was treated at the scene and released, according to Langejans.
