SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) - An investigation into the disappearance of $33,000 that the Surprise Police Department had stored as evidence in two drug investigations is ending without any charges being filed.

Phoenix police investigated the disappearance but couldn't identify any suspects, and a spokesman for the Maricopa County Attorney's office says there wasn't enough evidence to prosecute anyone.

According to The Arizona Republic, an audit found that an additional $18,600 and more than 60 guns also are unaccounted for.

Surprise officials say the Police Department has made changes to prevent further losses.
