PIMA COUNTY, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) - The Pima County Sheriff's Department was on the scene of a SWAT situation on the northwest side near Cortaro Road and I-10 Friday morning.

Deputy Tom Peine tells KGUN9 that at 11:30 p.m. Thursday night PCSD responded to a 9-1-1 call from a woman. She said her ex-boyfriend, 31-year-old Jared Ross, was suicidal and threatening to burn down and shoot himself.

Deputies responded to the scene and saw that the house was partially on fire. PCSD called NW Fire, but the fire burned itself out by the time firefighters responded.

There was another woman inside with Ross who was not the 9-1-1 caller. Deputies said the woman said Ross had restrained and threatened her.

Deputies tried to make contact by phone but were unable to do so. SWAT was called in to assist and kept trying to make contact with Ross.

A neighbor's house was evacuated.

Deputies sent in the robot to evaluate the scene around 6:30 a.m., which revealed that Ross was dead in the garage. He committed suicide. Next of kin has been notified.

As of 7:30 a.m. Friday, the scene is starting to clear and deputies remain on the scene investigating.
