Gov. Brewer to release proposed budget

PHOENIX (AP) - Gov. Jan Brewer is set to release a proposed state budget containing the spending priorities she hopes the Legislature adopts for the fiscal year that begins July 1.
Brewer has signaled she will boost school funding and ask for more money for school resource officers in her 2013-2014 budget. She also plans to boost spending on Child Protective Services while maintaining spending on most other state services.
Exactly how much money she'll ask lawmakers to approve for those priorities will become known at mid-day Friday when she releases her proposal.
Brewer has signaled she'll ask for slightly more spending than in last year's $8.6 billion budget.
The Republican-led Legislature essentially has the same priorities and it isn't yet clear where battle lines might be drawn.
