TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - The people who help people, need your help. Red Cross is recognized for relief work it does around the world, but tomorrow Nine on Your Side and Sam Levitz are hosting a "Stuff the Bus" in support of our local chapter.

After the first responders put out the fire, the American Red Cross of Southern Arizona steps in to help families cope with the unthinkable.

"We respond to over two hundred single family fires a year," said Cheryl Bender, Director Emergency Services. "They lose all of their belongings so we meet the immediate needs of providing food shelter and clothing."

Your donations at Friday's "Stuff the Bus" will assist these families in need. The Red Cross is hoping to collect everyday items such as batteries, bottled water and stuffed animals.

Bender said they're also looking for pet food donations "because when families are displaced so are their animals."

The Red Cross also dedicates resources to helping international refugees now living Southern Arizona.

"Most of them that you see walking along the street have a back story and its usually not a pleasant one," said Elissa Maish, who runs programs for Tucson's refugees.

Maisch told Nine on Your Side the refugees have specific needs.

"The ones that I see now that are greatly needed are items that relate to pregnant women and babies," she said.

Tomorrow's "Stuff the Bus" is at the Sam Levitz furniture on Broadway and Pantano between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. We'll have live coverage starting on Good Morning Tucson and continuing through KGUN 9 News@6.
