PRESCOTT, Ariz. (AP) - An off-duty accident has claimed the lives of a 51-year-old Yavapai County Sheriff's deputy and his 17-year-old son.
The Sheriff's office says Lt. Wayne Loughrige and Joseph Arter died Friday when their car went out of control on Highway 69 in Humboldt.
Authorities say the Dodge Durango driven by Loughrige drifted into the center median, over corrected, and then struck an embankment.
Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
The department says the two were wearing their seatbelts and there's no indication that vehicle speed or driver impairment contributed to the crash.
Loughrige was a 21-year veteran with department.
