TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - One local politician says the republican party is out of touch with modern-day Americans, and he is jumping ship into bluer waters.
In an open letter to his consituents, ward six city councilman Steve Kozachik announced Friday, he is switching parties, from republican to democrat.
Kozachik says the past two election cycles have made it clear, local party members have taken the GOP too far to the ideological right.
"I believe there are still a lot of centrist republicans in this community," said Kozachik. "They're not being represented by the local GOP though, and so someone's got to step up to the plate and say 'Look, to the extent that you don't reflect this community, I'm trying to. I'm going to join a group who I think does.'"
