Assistant coach Tony Gibson leaves UA football program

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV)- Arizona Wildcats assistant football coach Tony Gibson has left the football program and will reportedly return to West Virginia University as the Mountaineers cornerbacks coach.
Gibson worked under Rich Rodriguez for 11 seasons including stops at West Virginia and Michigan. This past season was his only year at Arizona.
In 2012, Gibson oversaw the safeties and was responsible for defensive special teams.
Gibson is the third Wildcat assistant to leave the program since defeating Nevada in the Gildan New Mexico Bowl.
Former tight ends coach Spencer Leftwich accepted a job at UTEP where he will coach his son. Additionally, former offensive line coach Robert Anae joined BYU as its offensive coordinator.
The 40-year-old Gibson grew up in Van, W. Va. and played defensive back at Glenville State, where he later coached. Gibson also coached at Cumberland University and West Virginia Tech.
