SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say a man who was fatally shot by police in the city of Surprise allegedly was suicidal.
Surprise police said Monday that the shooting of 52-year-old Joel Byne remains under investigation.
They say Byne was threatening his own life with a gun Saturday, held a rifle to his head and told police he was going to get them to shoot him.
Police say they tried to negotiate with Byne and used a "less lethal" round on Byne, who pointed the rifle at officers.
After police shot Byne, he was transported to a hospital and died shortly after arrival.
