TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - A shoplifter is still on the loose, after stealing gift sets and other items from a store and then pepper spraying an employee.
Tom Peine with the Pima County Sheriff tells KGUN9 that on December 31, 2012, deputies responded to an incident reported at the Safeway located at 7110 North Oracle Road.
When officers arrived, they learned a shoplifter had just sprayed an employee with pepper spray.
Detectives have found that earlier that night, the store’s Loss Prevention Officer had observed a male individual grab a gift bag. The male then continued through the aisles of the store and grabbed several other items. He then left the store without paying for any of the items.
The Loss Prevention Officer followed the suspect outside and confronted him in the parking lot. He demanded the suspect hand over the stolen items and was sprayed in the eyes with a chemical irritant. The man then walked away.
Anyone who recognizes the suspect or who has any other information is urged to call 9-1-1 or 88-CRIME.
