PHOENIX (AP) - A tracking device hidden in stolen cash has led to the arrest of a Mesa man in connection with an armed bank robbery.
Mesa police say 28-year-old Nicholas Herndon was taken into custody Thursday on suspicion of stealing $998 from a National Bank branch in Mesa.
Police say Herndon allegedly entered the bank Wednesday and handed a bank teller a note telling her to take all the money from her cash drawer and put it on the counter.
Police say Herndon's note also instructed the teller not press any buttons or she would be shot.
After Herndon fled the bank, police used tracking device hidden in the stolen cash to track him to a Mesa home.
The Arizona Republic says Herndon was on supervised federal probation for drug-related offenses.
